The first thing got into your mind when mentioning Social Media is Facebook. Well!! Facebook isn’t the only available Social Media Platform. We can name 100+ Platform to market your business through, but the question is: “Should you be on every platform?” Not necessarily.

Not all platform will be effective for your business, some will make the work for you while others will only cost. It isn’t that hard to know which platform will be effective and which won’t. There’re three steps you need to go through to determine the best platforms to invest in.

First, you need to know more about your business:
Businesses in the retail sector have active accounts on all social networks, but it’s a little more active on Instagram and Pinterest. Why is that? Because they allow potential customers to see their products and what they could look like in a home. While in the services sector, benefits come more from using Facebook, X.com (former: Twitter) or LinkedIn. As they are more text-based and make it easier to share useful and valuable information to potential customers. After knowing the best platforms that suit your business, you need to know which of these platforms your customers use.

Second, to know your customer:
Not everyone has the time and/or cost to be active on all social networks, that’s why knowing your customer is crucial. If most of your customers are on Facebook, it makes no sense to focus on Instagram or Twitter. Also, keeping an eye on your competitors’ social media activities will give you hints on the effective platforms for your business.

The benefits of social media platforms differ from one to another, and that leads to our final step. Define your goals, each social network has its strengths and weaknesses. That’s why you need to define your goals, whether you’re building a relationship with customers, sharing news or educating them about products/services. Knowing more about your business, customers and social media benefits; this will save you time, cost and of course efforts. It’s time to make more and waste less.
